 I have a Netgear R6400v2 Nighthawk Router. I have hooked up my external hard drive with my movies on it. I have it plugged into my router. My LG sees the drive in the photos and videos section of Web OS. I can get into the movie folder and any movie that is selected I get this error 'Your device is disconnected. Please check connection status.' Is there some type of setting I have to set up on the TV to play these files. Some files are MKV which I thought maybe it was just the file type. But ALL files mp4, mpg, AVI ect will not play at all. I get the error with every single file. This is the first time I am setting things up like this.
I know that you can hook up the hard drive directly to the TV however, I'd have to unplug and unplug it in every single time I add a movie to it. And the way the TV is set up that USB port is not accessible at all unless you move the entertainment center (which is heavy) and turn the TV. So that's not going to work. Same with directly doing a wired internet connection.
What is the issue and how is it fixed? Thanks!

 I think you must check your data cable connected with your hard drive. 
There may be several reasons behind this issue.
1. The Data Cable 
2. Port which connects hard drive with the router
3. And your LED TV compatibility with Hard drives.
I was having same issues regularly while connecting my several flash drives, external hard drives and memory cards with my LG OLED TV. 
I found one of the best external hard drive for LG smart tv through online research for my 8K Television.
